AUGUST MEETING RECAP

Our August meeting was packed full of speakers, information and attendees. After a couple of meetings with last minute emergencies, this one was a productive follow up.
The meeting began with a few words from Justice Bob Fillmore, Fifth Court of Appeals. He spoke about his role in the court and how important it is to elect conservative justices.
We then heard from Collin McLochlin with U. S. Senator John Cornyn’s office. An article about his presentation is on page 4.
Rebecca Bradford, Texas Federation of Republican Women President, finished up with a motivating and encouraging talk about how important it is to be a voice for the conservative cause.
Bradford gave three things to keep in mind as we strive to promote conservatism:
1. Stay informed.
2. Build KCRW Membership to show strength.
3. Be the expert that your friends already think you are.
The way that she proposes we accomplish the third point is by keeping ourselves trained and correctly informed. This takes diligence and a dedication to finding correct information.
As we move forward into the fray of the election season, I encourage everyone to stay alert and interact with people about conservatism. Convince people that we need to return to a smaller government that is dedicated to upholding the Constitution instead of finding ways to erode it.
MCLOCHLIN OUTLINES CORNYN’S SB AMENDMENT

North Texas Deputy Regional Director Collin McLochlin spoke to KCRW at the August meeting. He outlined some of the important issues that U. S. Senator John Cornyn is addressing for the citizens of Texas. Specifically, he shared about the current presidential administration’s failure to address the immigration issues that affect the state of Texas.
Senator Cornyn has authored a response to this failure in the form of a Senate Bill Amendment. This six-point platform would be a start to improving our country’s immigration crisis. We are fortunate to have a Senator that is concerned about the citizens of Texas.
LEGISLATIVE DATES OF INTEREST

August is already here, which means Labor Day is right around the corner. Labor Day is the traditional start to the new political season, and so in the spirit of looking ahead and getting our calendars and plans organized, here are a few dates of interest regarding the Legislature:
Tuesday, November 2, 2010: General Election Day. This is our Target Date!! We MUST elect our Republican candidates across Texas (and across the United States.)
Monday, November 8, 2010: Prefiling of legislation for the 82nd Legislature begins.
Tuesday, January 11, 2011: 82nd Legislature convenes at noon.
See how fast it all comes about! Let’s all get involved during the next 2 1/2 months to make sure our candidates are elected. There is Cindy Burkett’s campaign that REALLY needs our help. Her district is located in Dallas County, primarily in Mesquite and Sunnyvale. Let’s all get involved and help Cindy get elected! We (luckily) do not have a contested Legislative race in our District. Lance Gooden won the primary and does not have an opponent in November. That leaves us time and energy to help Cindy and other worthy candidates. Let’s all get started!

John F. Kennedy held a dinner in the White House for a group of the brightest minds in the nation at that time. He made this statement: “This is perhaps the assembly of the most intelligence ever to gather at the White House with the exception of when Thomas Jefferson dined alone.”
Jefferson, author of the Declaration of Independence and the Statute of Virginia for Religious Freedom, third president of the United States, and founder of the University of Virginia was an excellent communicator. Many of his quotes are still relevant and hold truths that patriots should hold dear.

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH
Thoughts from Congressman Jeb Hensarling
President Obama’s State of the Union address earlier this year actually showed some promise: he declared that he would “work within a budget to invest in what we need and sacrifice what we don’t.” As we all know by now, the Democrats have decided to not only ramp UP wasteful Washington spending, but they are trying to hide the dangers of this spending binge by not even passing a real budget – one of the most basic responsibilities of Congress.
For the first time since 1974, the House has failed to even consider a budget.
In a political year, the Democrats do not want to spend time debating their out-of-control spending habits. They don’t want to prioritize job creation in the budgetary process, because they don’t have a plan for job creation. They would rather just skip the process altogether. Any sense of responsibility to prepare an annual budget, to protect taxpayers, or develop a plan to help create jobs is a distant memory to Democrat leaders.
What is the most important issue to the American people right now?
Jobs, jobs, and more jobs, not spending, spending, and more fiscal insanity.
As families across North and East Texas continue to face pressure on their family budgets, our growing debt and stifling of a real economic recovery continues to slow job growth. The national debt now represents about 90% of our entire economy, considered by some economists to be the “danger zone” for economic growth. Such national debt is unprecedented, unfathomable, and unconscionable.
In fact, I talk to business owners and entrepreneurs every day who say they have money to invest in their companies, but they are holding back because they can’t predict the next move out of Washington. We have capital sitting on the sidelines while the American people need jobs and a vibrant economy.
We must have REAL change in November. The Democrats have controlled Congress since 2006 – it is time to fire Nancy Pelosi. We have an opportunity in 2010 to make that change and once again start advancing our ideas to promote real economic growth and restrain wasteful Washington spending.
We can’t wait till 2012. The change has to start this fall. This is truly one of the most important elections in which you and I have participated.
