SARAH PALIN DRAWS A CROWD IN TYLER

Sarah Palin spoke to a crowd of over 4,000 enthusiastic people at the Oil Palace in Tyler, Texas in June. Among those in the crowd were KCRW Jessica Nixon, Jody Deller, Pam Eggett and Nancy Murphy. Several speakers took the stage before the lights went down and Governor Rick Perry geared the crowd up for Palin’s appearance.
Palin returned to her “drill baby, drill” slogan as she criticized President Obama’s handling of the oil spill. She said she wanted to “set the record straight” about the slogan by telling the crowd that she advocates safe and ethical drilling. Palin also criticized BP (British oil company responsible for the Gulf oil spill) as she pointed out its less than favorable safety statistics and large donations to Obama’s presidential
campaign.
The crowd cheered as Palin gave more criticism to Obama for his push for big government and disregard for the Constitution She says, “the national role of our government is not to perfect us but to protect us.”
RECONNECT WITH CONSERVATIVE VALUES

This past Sunday we celebrated the founding of this GREAT nation, when 234 years ago the Continental Congress formally adopted the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776.
We all enjoy the holiday that was created to celebrate this day. We enjoy time with our families as we have cookouts, shoot fireworks, plan parties and more, but do we really stop to reflect on what this day really means.
Over the past eighteen months there have been more assaults on the Freedoms that we have long enjoyed than at any other time in our recent history. So let us take a few moments to look at what this country represents;
• A belief that all men are created equal – we are all different and from
different walks of life but we all deserve to be treated equally.• A belief that the rights that we have were endowed by our creator –
not the government. The Declaration asserts the existence of the
laws of nature and the nature of God. Government does not grant
rights through process, they have been granted by God.• A belief in the pursuit of happiness – we are not guaranteed
happiness but we do have the right to pursue happiness without
the government’s interference.
In spite of what the current administration says and does, it cannot provide everything to everyone. To quote Sarah Palin “It is not the government’s job to perfect us but to protect us”. What the government should do is to provide and environment where we can work to pursue and achieve our dreams.
This 4th of July lets reconnect with our traditional conservative values – faith, limited government, strong work ethic, and a spirit of community and participation. Read the Constitution, read about the founding fathers and the history of this great country. There are lots of great books out there to begin your journey to understanding and knowing about this great country. Study and become an informed citizen and voter. This next election in November 2010 will be a landmark election – let us take our country back – with NO APOLOGIES.

In August, we have a special plan for our program, and then Roger Williams (candidate for U.S. Senate) will be our September speaker. Please plan to attend these meetings as we gear up and get things rolling for the November elections!

As a schoolboy, one of Red Skelton’s teachers explained the words and meaning of the Pledge of Allegiance to his class. Skelton later wrote down, and eventually recorded, his recollection of this lecture. It is followed by an observation of his own.
I – Me; an individual; a committee of one.
Pledge – Dedicate all of my worldly goods to give without
self-pity.Allegiance – My love and my devotion.
To the Flag – Our standard; Old Glory ; a symbol of Freedom;
wherever she waves there is respect, because your loyalty has
given her a dignity that shouts, Freedom is everybody’s job.United – That means that we have all come together.
States – Individual communities that have united into forty-eight
great states. Forty-eight individual communities with pride and
dignity and purpose. All divided with imaginary boundaries, yet
united to a common purpose, and that is love for country.And to the Republic Republic-a state in which sovereign power
is invested in representatives chosen by the people to govern. And
government is the people; and it’s from the people to the leaders,
not from the leaders to the people.For which it stands
One Nation – meaning, so blessed by God.
Indivisible – Incapable of being divided.
With Liberty – Which is Freedom; the right of power to live
one’s own life, without threats, fear, or some sort of retaliation.And Justice – The principle, or qualities, of dealing fairly

And now, boys and girls, let me hear you recite the Pledge of Allegiance:
I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America,
and to the Republic, for which it stands;
one nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.
Since I was a small boy, two states have been added to our country, and two words have been added to the Pledge of Allegiance: Under God. Wouldn’t it be a pity if someone said that is a prayer, and that would be eliminated from schools, too?

Latest News From the Texas Senate
AUSTIN– – Yesterday I was in Austin for Senate Finance Committee’s bi-weekly interim hearing. We heard public and invited testimony on a number of issues including the Texas Business Tax and the effectiveness and efficiency of various sections of the state tax code. In addition we explored the capacity and infrastructure of rural hospitals, which — as a family physician — I found particularly interesting.

Senate Committee on State Affairs
Next Wednesday, July 14, I will be back in Austin for the Senate State Affairs Committee hearing to study voter access. The first issue we will explore is the efficiency and accuracy of voter registration rolls; specifically, the feasibility and security of online registration and how to ensure that deceased or other ineligible voters are not included on the rolls. The second charge is to study the feasibility of electronically delivering ballots to members of the military serving in the United States and abroad. We must ensure that our soldiers’ ability to vote is never hindered by their location.

New State Sen. Brian Birdwell
I would also like to extend a warm welcome to the Senate’s newest member, Col. Brian Birdwell, who recently won the special election to represent our neighbor to the west — Senate District 22. I had the opportunity to meet with him yesterday and after seeing his dedication to the job, I am confident he will represent his district with passion and pride. I look forward to working with Sen. Birdwell on all the issues that are important to north Texans .
