August President's Message

Rhonda Hughey

We have all had a wonderful break this summer, but it is now time to get back in the swing of things.  There are so many serious issues facing our country. Issues that may fundamentally change this country into one none of  us will recognize.  We all need to make sure we contact our Congressman Jeb Hensarling, our Senators John Cornyn and Ted Cruz and let them know how we feel about these issues. These legislators are on their summer break during the month of August and now is a great time to let them know how you feel.

Congressman Hensarling is having a Town Hall meeting in Chandler, in Henderson County on August 14, at the Chandler First Assembly of God Family Life Center, 840 Broad Street (FM 315 N), Chandler, TX 75758, at 3:30 p.m.  Discussing what is going on in Washington.

Senator Cornyn has not scheduled any town hall meetings  as of this writing and Senator Cruz is scheduled to speak at one of the nine Town Hall events sponsored by the Heritage Action.

The Texas Legislature is now home after three Special Sessions.  You can find a report in our Legislative Update.  Thomas Ratliff, who is the State Board of Education District 9 representative (our district) has agreed to debate Senator Dan Patrick regarding  C-Scope on August 24, at 6:30 p.m. on the campus of the University of Texas  in Tyler. Ratliff supports C-Scope and Patrick opposes it. Should be interesting. I am sure the teachers in our group, as well as some others, would be interested in attending.

And finally, there will be nine amendments on the ballot for the November 5, 2013 Amendment Election.  For more information you can go to this website;

Hope to see you all at the Meeting on August 17th!!!!!
