On May 18 of this year, Donna Broder turned in her resignation as President of the Kaufman County Republican Women due to health issues. At a specially called board meeting, as our by-laws require, the position was presented to Barbara Jo Green, 1st Vice President. Citing several circumstances, she asked not to be voted as President and asked that the Board vote on a replacement. From the Board Members present, I was asked to serve as interim President for the rest of this year. I accepted with the caveat that if Donna wanted to resume I would gladly stand aside.
I want to thank the club and board members for their vote of confidence in me.
Our May speaker, the Honorable Allen B. Clark gave an excellent presentation with much information about “Civilization Jihad”. His book, Wounded Soldier, Healing Warrior was available for purchase at the meeting, and Clark donated part of the sales back to the club. He allowed some time for a book signing.

Memorial Day Flags

Kaufman County Republican Women took time to honor our service men and women this past Memorial Day by placing flags throughout the campus. Jodie Deller, Donna Broder, Rhonda Hughey and I placed them Friday afternoon for the public to enjoy the entire holiday weekend. We place flags at the memorial for several different holidays throughout the year. If you would like to be a part of the team that makes it happen, please let me know by clicking here.

Relay for Life – UPDATE!

On April 29, 2011, Team Joyce ( for Joyce Lewis) set up their campsite at Furlough Middle School in Terrell for an all night relay for the 
American Cancer Society. The theme of the Relay was movies and our team’s theme was “the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants”. KCRW members Donna Broder, Janas Byrnes, Jody Deller (Captain), Erleigh N. Wiley, Mary Lee Seifried, Rhonda Hughey, Marilyn Rowden (a survivor), Jonelle Knisley, Linda Adair, all participated. The team had 23 members with many from the Kaufman County Courthouse and as of today 5/13 we have raised $2812 and the total for the Relay is over $93,000. I have another $92 and another donation is expected. (I plan to have $3000 by Monday May 16) Our baton won the first place prize. and we were one of only a few diehard teams to stay all night.
We were so fortunate, Joyce felt well enough to join us for a while and walk a few laps.
Update:
Our team also won second place for our campsite and won first place for our baton. We ended up with $3000 raised, making us a Bronze Team (teams raising over $2500).
We have until the end of August to continue to raise money. Just $500 more and we will become a silver team. You can donate online to Team Joyce here: TEAM JOYCE
