Welcome to 2016
There is a lot going on this year. The General Primary Election is March 1, 2016. This is a Presidential year and there are thirteen (13) Presidential candidates who have signed up to be on the ballot in Texas.
(There are some listed on the Secretary of State website, who have since dropped out but that is the source of the number.)
We are also electing our U. S. Congressman, Railroad Commissioners, Justices of the Supreme Court of Texas, three places, Judges on the Court of Criminal Appeals, three places, State Board of Education, two seats on the 5th Court of Appeals as well as our State Representative and county officials.
Some of you may not be aware that our Countywide and Precinct races are decided in the Primary, due to the fact that there have been no Democrats to file. There is only one precinct race in which a Democrat has filed to run. Whoever wins the Primary race for Commissioner Precinct 3 will face a democrat opponent in the fall.
The by-laws of the TFRW and the Kaufman County Republican Women prevent our club being able to support any specific candidate in a contested Republican Race. It does not prevent any Republican Woman from working for, or supporting the candidate of her choice as long as it is not done in the name of the Kaufman County Republican Women.
After the Primary, there is still lots of work to be done to prepare for the General Election in November. Be sure to keep track of the time you spend, working with or for a candidate or event. These hours will be collected over the next two year period toward awards, both state and national.
We plan to work hard but have some interesting things planned as well.
I don’t know about you, but I can’t wait to find out who the nominees will be.
See you January 16 to hear our State Representative candidates, Commissioners 1 & 3, all of Constables have been invited, but there is only one contested race in Precinct 4.
